Here the spotlight is on Katharine Hepburn and her unmatched flair for screwball comedy. The Philadelphia Story (1940) costars Cary Grant and James Stewart, and Bringing Up Baby (1938) costars Grant. Each film has a commentary track, by film historian Jeanine Basinger and Peter Bogdanovich, respectively, and a trailer gallery of other movies by the respective directors (George Cukor and Howard Hawks). Adam's Rib (1949) and Woman of the Year (1942) pair Hepburn with her longtime partner Spencer Tracy, and each film is accompanied by its own trailer. --David Horiuchi

My wife likes old movies so this was a good thing to get for herNo complaintsUnfortunately, one of the discs was not playable due to scratches, so we had to return. It wasn’t a brand new pack it was used.A nice compilation of Hepburn movies. They all played through. For under $20 this collection of 4 classic films is quite a bargain. Yet, the movies themselves are not among my favorites. The actors are all wonderful, but the stories just leave me a bit unsatisfied. I purchased this for "Adam's Rib" and "Woman of the Year", since I already have "The Philadelphia Story" and have never cared for "Bringing Up Baby" (I'm just not a fan of this type of screwball comedy wherein the heroine acts selfishly and preposterously most of the film, driving the leading man crazy, yet they still fall in love). Yet even if you only want half of the films, it's still a bargain. Both "Adams Rib" and "Woman of the Year" have top-notch performances from Hepburn and Tracy, but both stories are essentially anti-feminist morality tales. In the films, Hepburn's character is self-centered and manipulative, though not entirely unlikable, but Tracy's character is depicted as nobly self-sacrificing, even though he's not always better than she. At the end of the movies I'm left with the strong impression that these marriages are not going to last -- Tracy and Hepburn's characters just don't see eye-to-eye -- so, I'm left feeling unsatisfied, despite some fine acting and production. If you like old classic comedies. This one is hard to beat. Grant and Hepburn at their best.I bought this to replace my 'Bringing up Baby' vhs cassette. The sound was So much better and the picture too. I love this crackpot film - like the Marx Bros films in part - wild characters , absurd premise, dotty situations and a happy outcome! a great deal of excellent acting from all the cast, despite plenty of papier-mache sets. Hepburn seems startling brave in her handling of Baby, and is full of beans, beautiful, and well dressed.'The Philadelphia Story' was also great fun in a fine print. Perhaps Grant brought out the best in Hepburn. But as is often the case James Stewart just steals the show with an effortless & hilarious performance! The other two offerings were poor stuff despite my happy memories of them - Tracy looks old in both of them and the premise of both is weak and thin by todays view of women and men.I love the idealism of all the films. Somethng that US society seems to have lost.Amazing pack of movies, each enjoyable in its own way. I especially love Adam's Rib and The Philadelphia Story. WOMAN OF THE YEAR a ceci de particulier que Katharine y rencontra son futur mari Spencer Tracy. A quartet of Hepburn at her most delightful:"Adam's Rib", "Woman of The Year", "The Philadelphia Story", and "Bringing up Baby". And Spencer Tracey, Gary Cooper, George Cukor, George Stevens, Howard Hawks, and some leopards make for hilarity -- and a rick look at what women these years want in romance and then in marriage. Why, it's a 4-chapter education for men in "what do women want?" The answers are emotional, not just political, financial, professional, and social equality. They want personhood, aHepburn is advocate, entertainer, and model, The combination is a classic belonging to all who love what Shaw called "The New Woman", and the restorations are perfect, the packaging simple, delivery fast, and the price just right..What's not to like?
